The Institute for African Alternatives and Surplus Radical Bookshop are pleased to invite you to a film screening of “Thomas Sankara: The Upright Man” by Robin Shuffield. This event forms part of our African Film Series in which we explore the life and times of important African revolutionaries and events through film.
Thomas Sankara: The Upright Man is a 2006 documentary film about the life of Thomas Sankara, often referred to as “the African Che” due to his altruistic values. At the age of 34 Sankara was elected president of Upper Volta in 1983. He renamed the country Burkina Faso meaning “Land of Upright Men” and served as president until 1987 when he was assassinated.
The screening will take place on Monday 19 June from 6 pm at Bertha House (67-69 Main Rd, Mowbray) inside the Bertha bioscope.
The African Film Series is presented by IFAA Student & Youth and Surplus Radical Bookshop
