The Institute for African Alternatives (IFAA) is an independent Pan-African institution operating in South Africa but strongly networked across Africa. IFAA aims to produce and promote constructive analysis of South African and African socioeconomic and political issues. We conduct broad economic policy research, with a current focus on industrial policy, and raise critical issues for debate in our publications and public forums.
IFAA provides a platform for the dissemination of progressive views and encourages critical engagement with mainstream discourses on socioeconomic and political matters.
IFAA’s primary activity is the production of New Agenda: South African Journal of Social and Economic Policy. New Agenda serves as a vehicle for a number of policy research areas, including the mineral value chain, general issues in economic policy, political issues, and student affairs, among others.
